What now for Newcastle United FC 2012-13 season?

Ok so what now for Newcastle United FC?
After a fantastic 2011-12 season which many thought would be a difficult year for the club after several stars left in the summer. Many thought even with the new signings they would end up mid table at best.

The season is now finished and Newcastle United are back in Europe as they finished 5th in the Premiership, a truly fantastic achievement which has led to Alan Pardew winning the Manager of the Year award which is the first time a Newcastle manager has won it EVER!

The problem now is both based on this success(funny I know but true). There were times in the season when we were thread bare withe players missing for various reasons and because we had a bad year in the cups we pretty much were only concentrating on the league for the most part. Now however we will be needing to field a team on thursday nights in the UEFA cup and then again on Sundays for the league. Not to mention the FA and League cup as well. Then you have the issue of many of our stars are now attracting a bit of interest from other so-called bigger clubs which is naturally going to happen.

So what needs to happen now?

Players leaving IMHO
1) Alan Smith
2) Peter Lovenkrands
3) Nial Ranger
4) Xisco
5) Danny Guthrie
6) Danny Simpson

Personally I agree with all those apart from the last two, but from what I’ve heard Simpson just wont sign a new contract and Guthrie is just down the pecking order despite his good performances this year, however I’d keep him seen as he would be good to use in the cups and backup for the league and Europe next year.

Players apparently already signed or are signing!

1) romain amalfitano ( apparently agreed – midfielder)
2) Mathieu Debuchy ( not for certain but highly linked – right back)
3) Douglas ( again not for certain but linked and interest – Center Back )
4) Erik Pieters ( been linked with us for 2 seasons now – Left back and Center back)

I’d be happy with all of these signings but for me we still need another main Striker. I know some will say we have Cisse and Ba now but both will be away for the African Nations cup again next season and Still despite their successes this year not a Front man / target man in my mind. Especially with the amount of games we will have next year a new striker would be a welcome addition in my mind.

Transfers aside however or main task will be to try to keep hold of what we have got with news rife about Man utd wanting Cabeye, Chelsea wanting Tiote and the likes. If a big enough offer comes in for any player I do feel Mike Ashley will sell. Personally I think every player has a price and rightly so as the club is more important but it would be a shame to break up such a good first team seen as we are not in any financial trouble so don’t actually NEED the money.

Hopefully the players and Mike will see that keeping what we have and buying in 4 or 5 new faces will be for the best and hopefully will lead to another challenge for Europe next year.
