Football fans around the world have waited with anticipation of the start of the new premiership season and it hasn’t disappointed.
A great opening day saw Arsenal drawing 0-0 with a stubborn Sunderland side. Will the AVP sale pay off and will Giroud and Podolski find their premiership feet sooner rather than later only time will tell but on the opening match to go by then it might be a long season ahead for Arsenal.
Fulham’s 5-0 thumping of Norwich was a little surprising with the score line but not with the result. Many predicted Fulham would grab a win but not many thought 5-0 was on the cards. Pleasing obviously for Fulham supporters to see new signing Petric looking good and bagging 2 goals but not so pleasing for Chris Houghton’s Norwich who really didn’t look like they turned up on the day.
Michu and Nathan Dyer both scored twice to help Michael Laudrup get off to a dream start as Swansea boss with a thumping victory over QPR by the same margin 5-0.
Reading grabbed a deserved late equalizer against Stoke for a 1-1 draw while West Ham’s newly promoted side got a good 1-0 win against Villa.
WBA deserved their 3-0 win against a poor Liverpool side who possibly created enough chances to win 4 matches but unfortunately for them all of the chances landed at Suarez’s feet who despite his obvious ability which he has , many are now calling him “Jigsaw” because he comes apart in the box.
Newcastle earned a good valuable and well deserved win at home against rivals Spurs. Despite Spurs having a few half chances early on and hitting the bar twice, Newcastle picked up the pace and changed formation to a great goal from Ba got the game going. Defoe equalised shortly after with a bungled off the post scramble but normal service was resumed when Ben Arfa teased and skipped past the spurs defense for about the 20th time and was taken down for a clear pen. He dusted himself off and slotted the ball home to earn a good home win.
Sunday saw Chelsea get two early goals to win 2-0 and Man City continued their luck after being deservedly 2-1 down to newly promoted Southampton and then manage to snatch a win from nowhere 3-2. Luck you might ask.? Well for 1 Tevez was offside for the first goal which was clear to see by everyone other than the lino and a game of pinball in the box ended up at the feet of Edin Dzeko who had done very little most of the game but found himself standing 3 foot off the line when the ball ping ponged around the box and luckily dropped straight at his feet to fire in. Overall Southampton deserved at least a point but this was just why Man City are so lucky and Nasri got a well struck goal on 80 minutes to grab the win.
Overall a good start to the Premiership and I’m sure more to follow.
