The first Monday night game of the season saw a feisty affair between two good sides in Everton and Man Utd.
Everton following on from a good finish to last season started as they left off with an equally impressive 1-0 deserved win at home to Man Utd.
Rarely did Man Utd look like scoring as Evertons strong back line and accurate defending kept any trouble away for the entire match. Moyes has got Everton really playing as a team defending from each and every player.
Why Sir Alex kept Van Persie on the bench as long as he did we can only assume, but even when he was introduced late on he didn’t have enough time to make and impact. An ageing Paul Scholes looked like he finally needs to hang his boots up as his once pin point passing and quick decisions didn’t look up to speed on this occasion.
A fantastic performance from the bushy haired Fellaini grabbed the all important goal and a good one it was. Playing just behind Nikica Jelavic as part of Moyes’ 4-4-1-1 formation, Fellaini scored a 57th-minute winner for the Toffees at to cap a superb individual display which saw him named man of the match to boot.
For me it was between him and Phil Jagielka for the MOTM but a goal scorer will always get the nod 9 times out of 10.
Overall a great start for Everton who’s European ambitions have had a good boost with this win and a poor start for Man Utd. I have no doubt Man Utd will pick up over the season however as they do usually start slowly.
