Newcastle United: now in trouble?

I’ve been banging on all summer about the need for Newcastle to both finalize the deal for Mathieu Debauchy and to bring in at least 1 more decent central defender.

Now with a few games into the season it’s blatantly obvious that “I told you so” is just not going to cut it.

By no means do I claim to be the only outspoken supporter of those purchases as all summer long there were many other supporters claiming the same thing.

Granted a few new faces did arrive in other positions but now the season has started and with injuries to Ryan Taylor(long term), Coloccini and Steven Taylor both first team center backs has left us with a very weakened back line.

Unfortunately these injuries have hit us early in the season and there are still a lot of games to play before the January window opens up again. Undoubtedly we will now start to drop points for now until then so the damage may well be done before we get the chance to strengthen but it still goes back to the summer when we as fans were not listened too and got repeatedly told how the team was strong enough to cope with the added games.

The disappointing thing is that we had a great season last year and that we havent built and used that platform to try to take another step forward. It was the ideal time to attract new faces after a 5th place premiership showing last year and the success the new signings had on that position along with the positive press we received along the way.

Instead Mike Ashley did a Sports Direct approach and decided to go with what we had instead of investing to reap larger potential rewards and give the fans something to look forward to.

Even more annoying is that after this next season finishes, nobody will remember the injury crisis that caused the issues but just the final league position whatever that will be.
